English: 1I/ʻOumuamua as shown here imaged with the 4.2 meter William Herschel Telescope on the Canary Islands is seen as a point of light in the centre of the image. Background stars appear linear because the telescope was centred on tracking the object through 5 minutes.[1] 1I/ʻOumuamua (Weryk 2017 [2]), is the second known discovery of matter of interstellar origin within the Solar System [3] the first known interstellar planetesimal [4] and the first known interstellar object to enter the Solar System at a speed that resulted in a trajectory not orbital (ie. hyperbolic), [5] this being an interstellar speed of [6] 26.33 +/- 0.01 km/s [7] approximately Δ 26 kilometers per second.
