E-Mail für Space Certification

Hello Jonas – Thank you for your interest in the Space Awareness Program.

Over the last fifty years, many of the technologies developed to help get us "out there" have come home to help improve life for all of us here on Earth. As part of the Space Foundation mission to advance space-related endeavors to inspire, enable, and propel humanity, the Space Awareness Program was created to help improve public awareness and appreciation of the many practical benefits that we enjoy thanks to space technology. There are two aspects; the Space Certification Program® and the Space Technology Hall of Fame®.

The Space Certification Program® awards a "seal of approval" to companies whose products and services can demonstrate a viable link to the space program. Often referred to as "spinoffs", there are literally thousands of products and services that incorporate space technology including satellite television and radio, Global Positioning System (GPS) navigation, cellular communications, advanced industrial lubricants, robotics, plastics, and a long list of life improving and lifesaving medical technologies.

Certified products often set the standard for innovation, comfort, convenience and dependability. Licensed use of the seal allows the companies that produce and market these outstanding products to more closely tie their business to the excitement of space while helping inform the public of how space exploration directly benefits life for all of us right here on Earth.

Certified Product Categories

Certified Technology Product

A product or service that directly results from Space technology or space program development such that the product exists because of advances in space technology. Examples of certified space technologies include Eagle Eyes Eyewear, Outlast Phase Change Materials, GPS, and Tempur-Pedic foam mattresses. Certified Space Technologies comprise the largest group of certified partners.

Certified Educational Product

A product used in educational environments to stimulate interest and knowledge about Space. Education is key to the mission of the Space Foundation and supporting these products inspires each new generation.  Community Outreach programs, rocketry software and educational games of space exploration with a solid curriculum are prime examples of a Certified Space Educational Product.

Certified Imagination Product

A toy or entertainment product used to increase interest in and excitement for space.  From the “Drinker’s Guide to Colorado” to the colorful children’s book series "Space Boy" has been certified as a Space Imagination Products.  These products provide stories and examples of space exploration in a way that inspires new generations to take an active interest in space.

All Space Certification Program companies are partners - Certification ties businesses to the power and excitement of space exploration and shows their  customers how space technology improves their lives right here on Earth. The Space Foundation is committed to promoting the practical benefits of space exploration.

Application is the first step toward official certification. The Space Foundation will review the application for a genuine space connection. Upon approval, the applicant will then be licensed to use the certification seal in sales and marketing efforts.

About Certified Space Program partner Companies

Our Certified Space Program partner Companies comprise the foundation of the Space Certification Program. These companies receive special recognition for successfully bringing the myriad benefits of space technology into our everyday lives on Earth.

Certified Space Program partner Companies are start-ups, small and medium sized businesses, but all recognize the valuable distinction that Space Certification recognition provides in the competitive marketplace. It is satisfying to know that many of our Certified Companies become leading brands and industry leaders.

About Certified Products

The Space program has captured the imagination of the world since its inception.  Some of the products that our partner companies manufacture are utilized by other companies which in turn allows those companies the opportunity to become sub-licensees of the Certification program.  These sub-licensees are listed only as products under the Space Certified partner companies; however are provided a number of benefits which include licensed use of the seal in marketing efforts.

The Space Technology Hall of Fame® increases public awareness of the benefits of space exploration and encourages further innovation by recognizing individuals, organizations and companies that effectively adapt and market technologies originally developed for space to improve the quality of life for all humanity.  Created by the Space Foundation in 1988, the Space Technology Hall of Fame® recognizes the life-changing technologies emerging from global space programs; honors the scientists, engineers and innovators responsible; and communicates to the public the importance of these technologies as a return on investment in space exploration.  In addition to affording innovators much-deserved recognition, this program serves to encourage further innovation.

The Space Foundation works with U.S. and international space agency technology transfer offices to identify the most significant space innovations, and with panels of space and technology experts to select the most meaningful examples for induction. The ever-growing list of honorees showcases the significant contributions space makes to life on Earth.

To date, dozens of technologies have been inducted and hundreds of organizations and individuals honored who transformed space technology into commercial products that improve the quality of life for all humanity.

Every year the Space Foundation solicits nominations from a broad range of audiences, including NASA Centers, the Departments of Defense, Commerce and Transportation, commercial aerospace and technology companies and space agencies from around the world.

We encourage anyone to submit technologies that are deserving of recognition. Using the Official Nomination Form, individuals and organizations may nominate up to three technologies, including previously nominated technologies that have not been inducted.

We rely on you to follow the Space Technology Hall of Fame Selection Criteria included on the Official Nomination Form. Supporting material - such as technical papers and product literature - submitted for review will be assessed for completeness. Candidate technologies will then be submitted to a prestigious panel of judges and ranked according to the Space Technology Hall of Fame Selection Criteria.

Top-ranked candidates will then undergo a due diligence process. Selected nominations are announced each winter and officially inducted into the Space Technology Hall of Fame the following spring during a special awards ceremony and dinner held during the Space Symposium in Colorado Springs, Colo.
