In addition to portraying designers, manufactories and artists, as well as featuring interviews and reports, it also covers exhibitions, auctions and events in all genres of the applied arts. The magazine hosts an internet platform that showcases content and articles published in the printed magazine, as well as the profiles of artists and designers working in diverse genres. The company is headquartered in Ulm; the editorial office is located in Berlin.
History
The first version of Art Aurea was published until 1996, when it was discontinued and replaced by the Schmuck Magazin (Jewelry Magazine) periodical. Reinhold Ludwig became a self-employed publisher in 2007 to document the works created by designers, ateliers and manufactories in the applied arts, jewelry and design genres and to communicate these creations to the public. The internet platform artaurea.com went online in 2009, and in 2010, Reinhold Ludwig re-established the printed ART AUREA (proprietary spelling) magazine.
The magazine’s circulation has continuously increased from 2,000 copies when it was re-established in 2010 to 5,500 copies.
Editorial staff and contributors
In addition Agata Waleczek as permanent editor, ART AUREA collaborates with independent journalists, photographers and translators, publishing contributions by photographers and authors. Its art director is Florian Ludwig.
Grassimesse trade fair
In addition to the editorial section, ART AUREA’s winter issue includes the catalog of the Grassimesse trade fair, which is held every year in Leipzig during October. This issue is published with an increased print run of 5,500 copies.
Art Aurea Awards
The ART AUREA AWARDS were created in 2014 as a synthesis of the competitions for the Modern Jewelry Collection and the Design & Crafts Collection, which were premiered in 2009, to honor outstanding designers, artisans and artists from all genres of the applied arts.
