BBoy World is the first and the biggest independent urban dance community in the world established in 1999, with over 1.4 Million Subscribers, worldwide. The platform connects dancers, DJs, MC’s and creative artists with each other, long before social media platforms like Myspace, YouTube, Facebook, Instagram existed. The Founder of BBoy World is Erwin Mahroug, at that time a European student and now an entrepreneur and media dance mogul.

International Community

In 1999 a few weeks after BBoy World was launched, the platform grew into a community of 25,000 members worldwide. This was the first international community platform were dancers, dj’s, promoters and other artists could interact with each other, exchange information, and share videos. This innovation of communication was so revolutionary that it created a whole new way of promoting and experiencing culture. For the first time in history, a person from Japan could connect with somebody in the USA in real time.

The Introduction of breakdance to a global audience

By 2000, bboyworld.com was so famous that everybody in the breakdancing world talked about it. It caught the attention of every promoter, DJ, MC and other artists in the industry.Organizers started to contact Erwin to have their event promoted on the platform and also requested Erwin to provide dancers, DJs and other artists for their event.

With the collaboration of BBoy World, events such as IBE, Battle of The Year, Freestyle Session, and UK B-Boy Championships became internationally recognized and captured the attention of the breakdance scene worldwide. This new marketing strategy exposed the breakdancing culture for the first time to a wider worldwide audience, this resulted in more visitors and more sponsorship opportunities for the events. In 2001, three years after the BBoy World launch, BBoy World grew into a solid network of dancers, promoters, and DJs worldwide.

Collaboration

In 2003, BBoy World presented IBE (bboyworld.com/ibe), Bboy World has promoted events such as Battle of the year, Freestyle Session, UK B-Boy Championships, Outbreak, Unbreakable, Battle Pro, Bboy Unit, Floor Wars, Burn Battle School, Red Bull BC ONE, R16, Silver back Open Championships. With the collaboration of BBoy World, events like International Breakdance Event (IBE), saw an increase in attendance and brand value worldwide.

BBoy World All Stars

In 2002, bboyworld.com created the BBoy World All Star’s team, inspired by the USA AND1 Street Basketball Mix tape. This team consisted of talented upcoming dancers from all over the United States, giving them an opportunity to travel and compete in Europe and Asia. This inspired brands like Red Bull (Red Bull BC ONE All Star’s Est. 2010) and Monster Energy (Monster Energy B-Boys Est. 2013) to create their own All Star breakdance teams, thus promoting their brand.

BBoy World Events

  • In 2004, BBoy World organized Evolution. Evolution is a worldwide breakdance event series organized by BBoy World, with its world finals in the United States. The first edition of Evolution’s world finals took place in Florida in 2004. Since then, the world finals have been hosted in Atlanta, Miami, and New York.
  • In 2007, BBoy World created Outbreak Europe and organized the first edition in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.
  • In 2009, BBoy World organized the biggest breakdance league tour in the world for LG Electronics, this was a 7-country tour in South America. The 7 countries were Brazil, México, Chile, Colombia, Venezuela, Perú, Guatemala with a total prize money of $150,000 USD. The final leg of the tour was held in Colombia.
  • In 2010- 2011 Live Nation Entertainment and Bboy World Created a partnership for the bamboozle festival, Bboy World organized a two-day Bboy Competition. Bamboozle is an annual event that started in 2003. bamboozle has become the biggest festival on the east coast with around 100,000 visitors visiting the festival every year.
  • In 2011, BBoy World in collaboration with the Federation Royal Marocaine des sports Aerobics et fitness & Ministry of Youth and sports, organized a breakdance competition in Rabat, Morocco. This event was hosted by Mrs. Selma Bennani from the FRMSAFH Maroc.
