Deutsch: Hier ein paar Notizen zu Wikipedia:Usability-Initiative/Feedback. Ich werde diese Liste wohl irgendwann an das Usability-Team weiterleiten.
English: Here are some notes on Wikipedia:Usability-Initiative/Feedback. I'll pass on this list to the usability team.
Problems summary
A large number of both anonymous and registered users dislike some or all aspects of the change.
top priority
- the new search box position:
- many, many complaints (in fact, most feedback was about this), almost no supporters for the new position
- has been called unintuitive
- separated from the navigation bar and other important page elements
- while other websites place it on the right top as well, seach often matters less for them. For researching in an encyclopedia, it's the single most important tool, while on other websites it might be used only rarely
- there are multiple reports of the "open in a new tab" on tab links ("article", "talk", etc) feature not working in IE8 (bugzilla:23490)
- Multiple reports of pages building up very slowly (10 seconds). Some reports point in the direction of JS / IE8
- Weired style error, see image on the right
- interwiki link list
- most users want interwiki list expanded by default
- r67559 suggests that "expanded by default" is replaced by "only some languages by default" – there has been some critizism about that
editors often need all interwikis, so if this goes live there should be an option in Special:Preferences to expand the list all interwiki-links
default font size is broken for some usersthere already is such an option- too small
<syntaxhighlight>
has a too small font (bugzilla:23708)
- Some reports suggest incompatibilities with old browsers (IE6, Opera 9.0, Netscape 7.1). On the other hand, different reports suggest that some of these problems have been fixed in trunk
low priority
- When clicking on the "redirect" symbol of the toolbar,
#REDIRECT [[Zielseitenname]]
is inserted instead of a localized magic word (e.g.#WEITERLEITUNG [[Zielseitenname]]
) .previewnote & .previewnote p are missing in vector.css (they are in monobook.css)fixed with rev:67836. Now in common/shared.css. — Raymond Disk. 12:12, 11. Jun. 2010 (CEST)- MediaWiki:Tooltip-search-fulltext wrongfully suggests that "test" will search for the string "test" in pages, instead of going to the page "test"
- difference between visited link color, non-visited link color and external link color is too small
- there has been some criticism over the 1.5 line spacing on edit forms, which requires more scrolling
minor
- inconsistent line spacing in the edit form: on edit conflicts, the second form has less line spacing than on normal forms
- In the search box, the default gray text „search“ is not vertically centered. Its position is a bit too low
Suggestions
- Review search box position. Maybe more elaborate usability tests?
- Testing vector in IE8 and investigating long loading issues
- Discuss the option to make an opt-out for anonymous users via cookie (much-requested feature)
- Either expand all interwiki links by default or add an option to do that
2.0
New error reports since the last one has been sent
- Verified report of a style issue with Opera and the "Justify paragraphs" option enabled. See image
- (minor) Toolbar: The curser position should be on the right side of the text, after inserting --~~~~ (it currently is on the left side)
Long-term goal: Make the CSS valid :)
