Biologist from Chile, high school diploma in Rome (Italy), studies of biology and German studies in Freiburg, Berlin and Hamburg. Doctoral thesis on fish ecology and fisheries of the Laguna de Tisma (Nicaragua) and postdoctoral research on various marine biological and fishery topics at the Memorial University of Newfoundland (Canada) and the Federal Research Center for Fisheries. From 1998 to 2018 leading positions in international organizations:

  • 1998-2000 Deputy Director of the European Global Ocean Observing System (EuroGOOS) in Southampton, United Kingdom,
  • 2000-2002 coordinator of the EU project "European Directory of the Initial Ocean Observing System" (EDIOS, University of Hamburg);
  • 2003 - 2009 Executive Secretary of the Northwest Atlantic Fisheries Organization (NAFO) in Canada (Halifax, Nova Scotia)
  • 2009-2014 Senior Fishery Resources Officer at the World Food Organization (FAO) in Italy (Rome)
  • 2014-2018 Executive Secretary at the South Pacific Regional Fisheries Management Organization (SPRFMO) in New Zealand (Wellington)).

Her work experience and publications cover various topics, e.g. international fisheries management, fish ecology, ecosystem approach to fisheries, ecological knowledge of fishers, identification of fish species, endangered species (CITES), protection of sharks, illegal fishing and others. Johanne is an enthusiastic musician and for many years during her studies taught concert flute at a municipal music school in Berlin. During this time, her interest in development policy and nature conservation also led to longer study visits to Somalia and Ghana, in which she examined topics such as desertification control and relationships between culture and the environment

Johanne is now working as a freelance consultant and coach in Germany.
