Die Bahnstrecke Yekepa–Buchanan ist eine Eisenbahnstrecke in Liberia. Sie führt von Yekepa (Nimba County) bis zur Hafenstadt Buchanan (Grand Bassa County). Die Normalspur-Strecke ist nicht elektrifiziert und eingleisig.
Geschichte
Die Bahnstrecke wird nach dem früheren Betreiber auch Lamco Railway genannt. (Liberian-American-Swedish Mining Company (LAMCO)) Während des Bürgerkrieg in Liberia wurde der Verkehr eingestellt. The first shipment of direct shipping ore (DSO) left Liberian shores in September 2011.
Betrieb
ArcelorMittal Liberia’s operation center around three key components; mining, railing and shipping. Iron ore is excavated from Mount Gangra and processed at a nearby plant in the Tokadeh mines in Nimba County. The ore is then transported by rail on the 243 kilometer railway to the Port of Buchanan, where the ore is loaded onto ships for transportation around the world.
Die Strecke dient besonders dem Güterverkehr (zum Beispiel Eisenerz). Die Geschwindigkeit beträgt maximal 50 km/h. Die maximale Achslast liegt bei xx Tonnen.
