The members of Ecovis International are legally and financially independent entities.[3] In 2018, members of Ecovis International employed 7,225 persons in 75 countries. The British online magazine Accountancy Age ranks Ecovis International among the 15 biggest accounting networks worldwide.[4] The International Accounting Bulletin estimated that Ecovis International generated a revenue of 1,079 million USD in the same year (including the associated US partners).[5] Most clients of Ecovis International are small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and family businesses. In January 2019, Ecovis International joined the Forum of Firms (FoF).[6][7] The FoF is an independent association of global networks offering transnational audits. Among other things, the FoF aims at establishing internationally accepted standards for financial statements.

History

The Foundation of Ecovis Germany

In 2003, two tax consultancies founded Ecovis Germany as a strategic partnership. The origins of Ecovis date back to 1909.[8] In 2007, Ecovis Germany generated a revenue of 99 million euros.[9] Economist Rafael J. Weber classified Ecovis Germany as a "mid-sized" accountancy in 2006 and 2007. According to Weber, mid-sized accountancy make 25 to 65 financial statements per year.[10] Today, Ecovis Germany employs more than 1,700 persons at over 100 locations.[11] In 2017, Ecovis Germany generated a revenue of 164.5 million euros.

Expansion of Ecovis International

On May 28, 2008, Ecovis International was entered in the commercial register of Zurich as a Swiss association. In 2016, the New York based public accountant and advisory firm Marcum LLP joined Ecovis International as an associated partner.[12] The association pursues the objective of "developing the international ECOVIS Group" and of "furthering the economic interests of its members by strenghtening professional and organizational cooperation on all levels."[13][14]

Philosophy

The fundamental idea of Ecovis International is: "global expertise with local faces." This idea is supposed to show both customer proximity and the worldwide presence of Ecovis International.

Services

Ecovis International provides tax, accounting, auditing and consulting services, as well as other international services:

  • Tax includes among others: Fiscal arrangements and tax planning, succession planning, tax due diligence, advice on initial public offerings
  • Accounting includes among others: Payroll, financial accounting, tax returns, VAT reports and consilidated financial statements
  • Auditing includes among others: Voluntary and statutory audits according to ISA, review of financial statements and financial due diligence
  • Legal includes among others: Corporate, commercial and labor law, M&A, compliance, litigation, arbitration and mediation

Other services are global compliance, transfer pricing and worldwide company start-up. Moreover, member firms of Ecovis International offer talks and webinars on all of these service areas. Facing the challenges of the digital age, Ecovis International is working on the integration of cloud computing technology, big data and AI in the auditing process.[15]

Global Structure

Ecovis International is an association of legally independent companies with their own client base. Ecovis International is represented by an executive board and a supervisory board. Kay Friedrich Thomsen has been president of Ecovis International since its establishment in 2008.

Social Responsibility

Ecovis & friends is a charitable foundation that was founded in 2013 in Munich. The foundation goal is to support adolescents, especially in regard to education, culture and health.[16][17]
