The 30 member ensemble “Vienna Mozart Orchestra” was founded in 1986 and since then it focuses on the work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. In the 30 years of its existence, the orchestra has established itself as an integral part of the musical summer offer of Vienna.
The Orchestra
Numerous musicians of well known Viennese orchestras and ensembles, among others, members of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the Vienna Symphonic Orchestra, participate with the Vienna Mozart Orchestra as soloists and conductors. Singers of several opera houses, particularly of the Vienna State Opera and Vienna Volksopera share the stage with the Vienna Mozart Orchestra.
The Concerts
Particularly well-known is the concert series “Vienna Mozart Concerts in period costumes” held by the Vienna Mozart Orchestra every year from May to October at the Golden Hall of Musikverein Vienna and the Vienna State Opera.
On the occasion of the millennium celebrations in 1996 the Vienna Mozart Orchestra held 10 open-air concerts on the Millennium Stage in front of the Schönbrunn Palace in co-production with the Klangbogen Wien. Another noteworthy appearance was it acclaimed performance at the Carinthischen Sommers in Ossiach in August 1997 under the direction of the Vienna Philharmonic Ernst Ottensamer.
In June 1996, the Vienna Mozart Orchestra appeared at a gala event of the Chase Manhattan Bank in the Vienna Hofburg.
The Tours
During the winter months the Vienna Mozart Orchestra tours giving guest performances abroad. The Vienna Mozart Orchestra was six times in Japan, where it opened in 1991, the Mozart Year in Tokyo. In 2002, representing Austria at the 30th edition of the biggest festival in Latin America,Festivals Internacional Cervantino,the orchestra performed the inaugural concert. Other guest appearances have taken the orchestra to Taiwan, Korea, Singapore, Morocco, Malta, Germany, Slovenia, Italy, Greece, Canada, USA, Brazil, Panama, Ukraine, Mexico, Turkey and Cyprus.
