Rhinella ist eine Gattung der Froschlurche aus der Familie der Kröten (Bufonidae).
Systematik und Taxonomie
Die Typusart der Gattung wurde als Oxyrhynchus proboscideus im Jahr 1824 von Johann Baptist von Spix beschrieben.
Rhinella means ‘little nose’, from rhino- (
), the combining form of the Ancient Greek Vorlage:Transl (
, ‘nose’) and the Latin diminutive suffix -ella.[2]
Arten
Die Gattung Rhinella umfasst 91 beschriebene Arten. Sie ist damit neben den Stummelfußfröschen (Atelopus) mit 96 Arten die zweitgrößte Gattung der Krötenfamilie, die insgesamt 588 Arten in 51 Gattungen zählt.[3]
