Christof Fielstette is a german light designer with an internationally operating office in Hamburg,Germany.

Life and work

Christof Fielstette studied architecture in Würzburg and Hamburg (M.Sc. at the University of Applied Science). From 1998-2004 he worked as light designer and project manager for the Company Ulrike Brandi Licht GmbH. In 2004 he started his own light planning office in Hamburg „made by light – lichtplanung“.[1] His services in daylight and artificial light planning include all levels 1-9 (HOAI). Together with his partner Arne Fiedler, Christof Fielstette also develops lighting systems according to the customer’s needs. They understand light as an integral and useful part of architecture. They plan light to benefit the project and to secure that people feel comfortable.

Teaching assignments and public works

Since 2002 Christof Fielstette teaches at universities, e.g. at the HafenCity University in Hamburg, Dept. Architecture and Urban planning,[2] at the University of Applied Sciences, (HAW), Hamburg, at the faculty of design, media and information and the faculty architecture, at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm[3]and the TU Munich, dept. Climae design and Building Technology.

As partner of the Relux Informatik AG Christof Fielstette teaches seminars in the area of light simulation in Germany and Europe.[4]

In 2000 Christof Fielstette was cofounder of „Transnational Tanteidan“, an international group of „light detectives“.[5] This group of light planners aims to explore and discuss cross cultural lighting identities and support young academics.

Meanwhile Fielstette completed more than 250 international projects:

  • Hochtiefhaus Berlin (first office building in Europe to be equipped with 100 % LED-technology)
  • ZDF Newshighway, Mainz
  • IHK Wiesbaden
  • Masterplan German University of Technology, Oman
