History

The Sillpark opened its doors in the center of Innsbruck more than 20 years ago. The shopping center was planned by “ATP Architekten und Ingenieure” on the site of the former Rhomberg textile factory and commenced trading in 1990. At that time, the shopping center was the largest building construction project in the city.

The Sillpark is located directly adjacent to the city’s mainline station and derives its name from the surrounding area, as the shopping center is situated in a park next to the River Sill, which supplies the shopping center with energy via an on-site power plant. .[1]

The university city of Innsbruck is the most important retailing center in western Austria. Over 400,000 people live within 30 minutes of the Sillpark shopping center. Owing to its central location, the Sillpark is also a tourist attraction and with its workforce of more than 700 people is one of the largest employers in the region. In 2012, Primark opened its first Austrian outlet in the Innsbruck Sillpark center. In the meantime, there is now a second Primark shop in eastern Austria.
