Antonio Aldo Papaleo (further nicknames are "Tony" "Baby Face" "Corleone" - * BIRTHDAY in TOWN, Italy) is an international investigative journalist of Italian nationality. He operated many times undercover and threat devoted to report to the general public cases of corruption and organized crime using his real name. He has been described as a self-styled truth 'seeker1'. After several successful disclosures, he is haunted by his enemies, survived a stab attack and stays now in hiding under difficult circumstances.

As the son of a well-known mother Professor Rosa Maria Ancona, a poet and teacher of journalism (twice awarded the Premio per la Cultura by the Board of Ministry of Italian Republic and nominated for Premio Viareggio per la Poesia) and father Giacomantonio Papaleo, a pioneer of Information Technology in Italy, he was introduced to science, art and culture since his childhood.

From early age on, Antonio Aldo Papaleo was surrounded by society critic and politically activist intellectuals. He befriended masters of journalism (e.g.: Ruggero Orlando, Melo Freni and Leonida Répaci), influential essayists and writers (e.g.: Santi Corrente, Ignazio Delogu and Saverio Strati), renowned painters (e.g.: Eduardo Bruno, Salvatore Fiume and Carlo Puleo) and inspiring poets (e.g.: Rafael Alberti, Ignazio Buttitta and Febo Delfi).

Carrer

While still a young child, Tony started as a speaker, a moderator and opinionist for several radio stations/broadcast networks, like Radio Luna, Radio Incontro, Antenna Bruzia, Radio Nord, Antenna Sud, Radio Sound, RLB and Radio Italia, and commercial/public television stations, e.g. Video Calabria, Telespazio Calabria, Teleuropa Ten, TV 5stelle, Rai – Radio Televisione Italiana).

As an adult, Antonio has been a biographer, an editor NOT WORKING LINK, a book publisher and a radio and TV programs producer, being even an associate of the legendary Alvaro Mancori and his PanFilm. Friend and scholar of the late Valerio Riva Valerio Riva, Tony has helped with his articles in Il Giornale I killer di Moro addestrati a Praga, 06 April 1998 and his masterpiece Oro da Mosca where Antonio’s contribution is strongly indicated by the author. Under his pen name, he has been editor in chief of La Voce, three Italian news agencies in the Visegrad countries, and also deputy editor in chief of The Daily in Czech Republic, Hungary and Slovakia. As a reporter he has written about the human rights of minorities, the lobbying of the tobacco industry in the Czech Republic and the weapons industry in Slovakia. As a TV journalist, he has worked as a fixer for Italian National Television Rai in Prague and as a stringer for Swiss National Television RSI in Bratislava.

Coup 1

Together with other colleagues of the Global Investigative News Network, he succeeded in blocking an illegal public tender worth thirty million euros and denouncing the Slovak National Council rules of procedure.

With his journalistic partners John Boyd and Ivan Brada he coauthored a report on the Human Body trafficking for Slovak National Television RTVS.

Skin & Bone (2012)

The International project Skin & bones, authored with a team of other colleagues of ICIJ (Kate Willson, Vlad Lavrov, Martina Keller, Thomas Maier, Mar Cabra, Nari Kim, Alexenia Dimitrova, Michael Hudson and Kimberley Porteous) won, in 2013, the Society of Professional Journalists Sigma Delta Chi Awards for independent journalism, the Karpoor Chandra Kulish (KCK) International Award for excellence in Print Journalism, the SABEW - Society of Business Editors and Writers Award for investigative journalism, the August Sidney Award of the Hillman foundation and the Honorable Mention of National Press Club Award for periodical journalism.

Hong Kong Connection (2014)

Tony exposed the Hong Kong Connektion (2014), an undercover investigation into the world of money laundering (only anticipated by his article in the South China Morning Post). The story was headlined in China, Italy, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hong Kong and Thailand. His subsequent role as Key Witness for the HK-SAR Narcotic and Financial Bureau Police Force in the prosecution of an international crime syndicate led Reporters without Borders to launch an appeal to four different governments in order to guarantee his safety.

When the hearings of the court were adjourned for six weeks and police protection was suspended he fleed to Thailand, not for holiday, but to lay low. Three days later he was attacked, stabbed and almost killed in Phuket in what three of his eight assailants admitted to be an attempt of murder.

Medzinárodná blamáž produced in 2012, was nominated for the Media Prize30 of Open Society Foundation and has won the Journalism Award of the Slovak Literary Found for Journalism and a mention by the Slovak Syndicate of Journalists and O médiách.

Therefore a new appeal for his safety was launched by the Pen Center USA, the Association of European Journalists, the Freedom Adviser of International Press Institute IPI, Barbara Trionfi, and the OSCE’s representative on Freedom of the media, Dunja Mijatovic expressed concerns for his life.
