Aug. 2010 (CEST)
Small bug in jawiki page
Hello Stefan. In the tool's jawiki pages [1], [2], [3], [4], [5], [6], [7], [8], [9], some texts are not altogether displayed. I found the reason was wiki markup in html page, for example, "<nowiki><ref></nowiki>". This tool seems not to handle wiki markups, so they will disappear together in output page. I believe they should be like "<ref>" instead in order to display them correctly.--Penn Station 05:33, 5. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- You need to update the translation page to take into account the new interface (no more wiki markup, but direct html markup). We did it on the frwiki. --NicoV 13:02, 5. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- Thanks NicoV. I have just updated the translation page on jawiki. It seems that http://toolserver.org/~sk/checkwiki/jawiki/jawiki_translation.txt will be updated daily, so I'll wait until the change will be reflected to the page on toolserver.org. --Penn Station 14:44, 5. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- The page was updated successfully in one day. Thanks for your help!. --Penn Station 11:31, 7. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
Please make it possible...
... to have a list for bots of all problems with the same code. Now I only get the first 25 items, when there are more than 25 problems to solve. Thanks! Romaine 16:08, 10. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- You can use the
limit
parameter of the URL to increase the number of items. --NicoV 18:27, 10. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
Can't retrieve list if there are too many of the type in the database
The more errors there are of a given error id, the longer it takes to retrieve a list of articles. For some errors, there are so many that retrieval always times out. That makes it impossible to work on some errors. Is there a way around this, or can something be changed to allow getting these lists? Thanks. --Auntof6 01:06, 15. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- Hi, know the problem, too. Have you ever tried this tool to avoid the problem: WikiCleaner? It's Open Source[10].
- Lets you define the specific amount of a given error you want to see.
- Presents you a list with this articles, with one click on an articles name opens it and marks the error inside the articles text for you. Verry pleasant.--
- Ben Ben 19:04, 15. Aug. 2010 (CEST) BTW: The tool's author is writing to Stefan in the next paragraph.
- No, I haven't tried WikiCleaner; I usually use AutoWikiBrowser. Do you think WikiCleaner would do any better at loading a list? I've been assuming the issue is with the database rather than the interface. --Auntof6 03:55, 16. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- I don't know if it works better for retrieving the list, I think it only depends if the list for bots is easier to retrieve than the list for humans (less informations retrieved, only the page names). On the frwiki, it works often (but not always), even for the lists with 30-40k pages. --NicoV 08:50, 16. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- Hi, Aunt. I have only limited experiences with AutoWikiBrowser, dumped it for other reasons. From this few usages my subjective impression is, if you are focusing on a specific error WikiCleaner is faster. Using it as well as on the english.wiki as on the german.wiki on error #43, I have brought that error down from 4000 → 2000 (en) and ?(forgotten) → 0 (de) in a few weeks.-- Ben Ben 21:47, 16. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- And, besides the self-praise, no remarkable problems with loading a new list. Have set the number of new articles to 100 per load (don't remember the default value) and on some days I have to reduce that to 25, but never had a situation I couldn't continue to work.-- Ben Ben 22:07, 16. - I looked into that, but I apparently don't have my Java set up right -- it looks like I have an old version of Java Web Start of something.
- Anyway, the errors I have trouble with have tens of thousands of articles, not just 4000 or so. I seem to be able to get a list (eventually) on errors with up to 10,000 or so, but not on the ones with really big numbers of articles. I may look into WikiCleaner more later -- I think I'd have to learn more about Java stuff to get that to work. --Auntof6 04:07, 19. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- Just for information, I tested on enwiki. Currently, among the errors that WikiCleaner takes into account, I only have a problem with error #17 (17k), but errors #61 (200k) are not yet coded in WikiCleaner. #17 seems to be strange because other errors with more detection work correctly (#59 with 24k, some on frwiki with 40k) and the cw interface for it only displays a white page (no error). --NicoV 22:22, 19. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- I have added detection for error #61 in WikiCleaner and I tested it on enwiki (> 200k detections). It took a few minutes, but I finally retrieved the first 100 detections for #61. --NicoV 18:12, 22. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
Acces to the 'new interface' source code ?
Hi Stefan,
Would it be possible to have access to the source code of the new interface ? We could then send you patches for some features we are interested in. I'm thinking of the following patches :
- A list for bot that would contain both page ids and page titles.
- A done for bot that wouldn't send back the list of pages.
--NicoV 12:34, 15. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- Hello NicoV, it is open source, but I have forget to do this script online. I will make this in the next days. But at the moment I have not so much time. -- sk 22:21, 16. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
Marking items as done
After fixing multiple errors on an article, do I need to mark all items as done, or would they all be rechecked when the article is scanned next? --Vina 19:28, 20. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- Hello, the errors will be reckecked on the next scan, but till than if you didn't marked them the next person who want's to help improve the wiki would search/work for nothing.-- Ben Ben 12:50, 21. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
- Okay, I'll try to mark them all. I forget to click on the number some times. --Vina 02:57, 24. Aug. 2010 (CEST)

Chinese wiki project page
The Chinese (zh) project page has moved to the main Wikipedia namespace zh:维基百科:错误检查专题, and the translation page is now here zh:维基百科:错误检查专题/翻译. I tried to update some of the translations to remove the wiki markups, and am not sure if it is being picked up via the redirect. --Vina 02:57, 24. Aug. 2010 (CEST)
