Diskussion:Golden-Gate-Klonierung

Herkunft des Namens

Ich habe Dr. Yuri Gleba nach der Herkunft des Namens gefragt und dabei folgende Antwort bekommen:

The name Golden Gate has been proposed for a couple reasons. First, there was an earlier technology trademarked Gateway which was much less powerful and resulted in constructs with additional DNA inserts, and additional amino acids in the resultant proteins. We wanted to somehow refer to that technology but at the same time pointing out that what we have is an improvement. Second, the whole technology is aiming at assembling DNA pieces in a precise and seamless way, very much like a good bridge seamlessly connects the roads on the two sides of the river, and the most iconic bridge that comes to our mind ( at least to my 'flower power' generation) is Golden Gate bridge in San Francisco.
