Number of quarters by arrondissement

The subdivision of arrondissements into quarters is old and no longer effective. There were 4 quarters per arrondissement, and they were called "quartiers admnsitratifs" despite they have been long used only to delimit the juridication of police stations. This is no longer the case: the polcie has been reorganized, and there are other administrative delimitations for citizenship: the 80 historical (police) quarters are now replaced by 121 "quartiers" which are more equally balanced, and used to delimit legislative circonscritions (some of them spanning partly several arrondisssements).

All these quarters are subject to change, for electoral need, but also because they better reflect what Parisians feel about what is "their" quarter of life (culturally and economically). Look at the French Wikipedia, you'll see several definitions of "quartiers" in Paris, and look at the references for the old 80 quartiers : they are really old (from the end of the 19th century), and no longer match with the effective division used by the Préfecture de Paris (for the police administration).

Something must be corrected, and that was the subject of my change, that you have reverted ; at least you should correct the ambiguity between the various definitions of quarters ! — verdy_p 23:13, 13. Apr. 2010 (CEST) (ohne Benutzername signierter Beitrag von Verdy p (Diskussion | Beiträge) )

I agree that the subdivision of arrondissements into the 80 old quartiers is generally overestimated across Wikipedia articles, but they do still exist (cf. Article D2512-3 Code général des collectivités territoriales), even though the Code général des collectivités territoriales doesn't attribute any function to them.
If they are indeed functionless nowadays (Are they really?), we should look for a source and add this information. --Entlinkt 00:09, 14. Apr. 2010 (CEST)
