We Can Edit

Here are some informations for new Wikipedia authors that is intended for support - before or during the event, but also later for reading.

First steps

• Create an account now explains, why it makes sense to create a Wikipedia account.
• This page is about how to edit Wikipedia in general.
• The sandboxes are pages designed for testing and experimenting with wiki syntax and the VisualEditor.
  • Your user sandbox, a personal place to test your editing skills in your own userspace.

Why run an edit-a-thon?

1. It helps build the encyclopedia
2. It builds relationships in the community
3. It is an opportunity for editors to learn from each other
4. It can entice people to become new Wikipedians
5. It can help new Wikipedians to contribute
6. It is an opportunity to improve the quality of Wikipedia by accessing offline materials and experts
7. It's fun!

Edit-a-thons improve the quality and expand the scope of the encyclopedia, create a link between the authors and can be a wonderful way into Wikipedia for those interested. They are very different from other Wikipedia events. In short, an edit-a-thon is an entertaining workshop where all participants pull together to achieve a common goal.
