Link "updates"
Hi, I noticed that you are changing a lot of LCCN database links. Edits like this are not really "updates" though, because the links are identical except for the leading zeroes. I would like to suggest not to perform such cosmetical changes as the only content of an edit, because they only mean unnecessary server lag. The changes may well be performed together with other, substantial changes. Regards --FordPrefect42 16:57, 22. Aug. 2011 (CEST)
- It's not cosmetic - the links are actually broken with the leading zeros. Check the WorldCat links here (links to here) versus the update I did here (which fixes the link to here.) -Avic (talk) 17:00, 22. Aug. 2011 (CEST)
- Okay, I can see your point. In my eyes, this seems to be a mistake in Vorlage:Normdaten (the WorldCat links have only recently been added to that template in some kind of slap-bang action); I think it should be possible to truncate the LCCN parameters from the unneeded zeros within the template instead of fixing some thousands of biographical articles manually. Cheers --FordPrefect42 17:09, 22. Aug. 2011 (CEST)
- Point. I believe I fixed the issue with this edit to the template. Let me know if I broke something. -Avic (talk) 21:42, 22. Aug. 2011 (CEST)
- Your changes seem good to me. There is another issue, that seems to be unrelated to your change. There seem to be two different URL structures at Worldcat: www.worldcat.org/identities/... as generated by the template and www.worldcat.org/wcidentities/... as linked from VIAF. In articles like Abu l-Hasan Ali WorldCat links to http://www.worldcat.org/identities/lccn-no2001-63333 , which shows an 404 error. VIAF links to http://www.worldcat.org/wcidentities/lccn-no2001-63333. Obviously there are some LCCN entries with no corresponding WorldCat entry, in which case the .../identities/... path results in an error, whereas the .../wcidentities/... path at least shows a readable screen with a reasonable message. Have you further information about WorldCat's path structure to confirm this view? Cheers --FordPrefect42 00:14, 23. Aug. 2011 (CEST)

Hi! Thanks for notifying me about this talk. I noticed also the different linking variants to WorldCat id's some weeks ago. We need to identify some people providing us with some specifications on the OCLC work about WorldCat id's. I am very new in the topic and posted comments about both formts at the German template discussion page. Mybe you have noticed the lining of known bug reports. It is mostly very late at night and the report en:003 was posted 24 h after detecting it (without nay notice at de: or eo:). The inserting location of the template can influence the visibility. It is both a docummentation issue and a bot sw development issue. Bot sw is an area where I have no clue about. I added some 111++ templates at eo: sporadically some at ro: ru:, ja: while I was helping with some i18n testcases for the next mw: release. I found 2-3 pathological errors (CDM and Bidi related). Good night for today! ·לערי ריינהארט·T·m:Th·T·email me· 04:14, 23. Aug. 2011 (CEST)
Redirects
--Gleiberg (Diskussion) 08:21, 2. - I'm afraid I don't quite understand. Redirects are cheap, and exist so people can find the article they are looking for. How is this not helpful to the project? -Avic (talk) 08:53, 2. Aug. 2015 (CEST)
- Creating redirects with wrong orthography (i.e. the missing "." in the names), is unwanted in the de:WP. Has nothing to do with being cheap, the community here has different opinions about it. So I would recommend you to get familiar with the rules here. Greetings, --Gleiberg (Diskussion) 09:26, 2. Aug. 2015 (CEST)
